Recently our practice (Toccare) has acquired a new toy that we are quite excited about.  Vanquish™ is a FDA approved device using radiofrequency to target unwanted body fat.  It is a pain free, non-invasive, noncontact procedure which heats the fat cells causing Apoptosis. (the death of the fat cell)  It is a device which hovers over the treatment area and delivers radiofrequency to a targeted area for approximately 45 minutes.  Over the 45 minute treatment one feels a warm sensation. (and occasionally a hot spot which is quickly remedied by the provider making appropriate adjustments) The deeper layers of fat are heated to 44-45 degrees Celsius while the surrounding tissues stay at a comfortable temperature.   No medication is required, no anesthesia, no needles.  Truly noninvasive.

Results are seen within weeks of the initial treatment.  4-6 treatments are recommended per area such as abdomen, back, thighs or arms and treatments are a week apart.  We ask that patients be well hydrated prior to the treatment and continue to hydrate well after the treatment.

What happens to the fat cells that have died?  The body eliminates them through the lymphatic system, kidneys and liver.  There are few contraindications for this treatment, including implanted medical devices such as internal pacemaker/defibrillator or insulin pump.

The ideal candidate is within 10-20 lbs of their ideal body weight.  Thinner patients with very little body fat will, for obvious reasons, not see a noticeable change.  But for those of us with the dreaded belly bulge, unwanted saddlebags, “bra fat” or pesky love handles Vanquish™ can help to target and recontour  these areas.

What can one expect from the Vanquish™ treatment?  Most patients go down one pant size and loose several inches.  It has been noted that skin turgor also improves for patients.  Results can continue to be noticed for up to 6 months after the last treatment in a series.

Results are obviously maintained with appropriate diet and exercise.  This is not meant to replace a healthy diet and exercise routine.
